John Dueck, passed away peacefully, at 89 years of age, on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Tuxedo Villa, Winnipeg, MB.
He was born on July 27, 1936, to Cornelius S. and Elisabeth (Neufeld) Dueck in Grunthal, the eighth of nine children. He married our mom Linda Hiebert on September 15, 1957. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary earlier this year.
He was survived by his wife Linda Dueck (nee Hiebert) for one day. He is survived by his three children Carol Bergen, Sharon Mendenhall, and Conrad Dueck, and their families, and by many members of the extended family.
John was predeceased by his parents and all siblings: Diedrich, Cornelius, Peter, Anne, Ben, Hank, Abe, Helen and their spouses.
Throughout his life he worked hard at whatever he did, always committed to his role as a provider for his wife and family. He was a man of his word.
He started his work life early. When dad was a boy, his brother Corny wanted dad’s help but couldn’t pay him. He gave him a CCM bike which dad proudly rode to school. At thirteen he went to work on a chicken farm, leaving the family home for the first time. After marrying our mom, dad often joined Grandpa Hiebert’s threshing team at harvest time. His role as a husband and provider was central to his life. His work life consisted of working as a milk man (where he was often mistaken for Mister DressUp in his milk cap and bow tie). He later worked in construction and as a window salesman, with a side-gig of many years as a strawberry farmer.
Uncle Frank Hiebert invited mom and dad to a crusade where both of them gave their hearts to the Lord.
He was very musical, playing the guitar, fiddle, and harmonica, and he would continue to pick these up from time to time throughout his life. Even in his final years at Tuxedo Villa he could still entertain us with his harmonica.
He served the church community of Morrow Gospel for many years as a deacon, was actively involved in Boys Brigade, taught of adult Sunday school, and led bible study.
After retirement he became enthusiastic about woodworking and refinishing antique furniture. He worked side by side with his good friend Pete Kroeker in Kroeker Woodcraft. In his later years he was diagnosed with Parkinsons.
The joint funeral service for John Dueck and his wife Linda will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Morrow Gospel Church, Winnipeg, MB., with viewing prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their kind and compassionate care over the time that John spent there.
