Shelley grew up in a farming family southwest of Morris. Shelley took piano lessons for many years. She accompanied the men’s choir, played piano for church services, and played many piano and piano-organ duets with her brother Bob. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Manitoba and worked as a nurse in the Morris Hospital and for homecare.
She attended Broadview School where she met Donald Edel. Don and Shelley started dating in 1974. He would pick her up in his airplane (or his motor cycle) and take her for dates in the sky (or out in the prairies). They were married on July 26, 1975.
Shelley loved Jesus with her whole heart. She was missional and a prayer warrior. She was generous, an encourager, hard-working, compassionate, creative and a mother figure to many. She enjoyed travelling, meeting new people, thrifting and buying quality new shoes (for everyone in the family!). Besides music, Shelley’s creativity also came through when she sewed clothes for her family. The girls had many matching Christmas dresses and fun costumes every year. Shelley also enjoyed the beauty of creation and could spend hours touring gardens and marveling at God’s incredible handiwork.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025 at Morris Emmanuel Baptist Church at 2 pm. No viewing will take place.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Woelk (Shelley founded the Dr. Woelk fan club), Justin Majeau, Gerald Dyck and Joan Van der Linde, and the staff at Boundary Trails Hospital, Rick and Brenda Lehman for their unconditional love, friendship and support for our family and all those who have supported and loved us well.
