It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Abel Laurie Okema on December 29, 2025 at the St. Boniface General Hospital with his family by his side at the age of 66 years.
Abel leaves behind his caregivers Lawrence Hinze and Barbara Zailo, Chris and Bridgette Logan along with Brad Penner and Marlene Fast, his siblings Martin (Molly), Charlie (Sarah), Herman (Louise), Robin Ann (Clayton), Audrey (Bill), Cynthia, Tina (Roger) and Christian (Rachel), closest niece Brenda, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is predeceased by his long-time caregiver Rose Hinze, parents Ellis and Andrina Okema, siblings Larry, Horace, Reggie and Gladys, adopted sister Rita, sisters-in-law Paula, Nancy and Sandra, nephews Roy, Josie and Vernon, niece Evelyn and Amanda, grandsons Maverick, James, Joshua and Jason, and granddaughter Kayleigh.
Abel was born in God’s Lake Narrows but was raised in Steinbach from a young age. He had a gentle and loving soul and touched many lives.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to those who have taken care of our dear brother throughout his life.
Abel, you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten.
