Obituary

Suddenly, with her family by her side, Florence Yack (Bouchard), aged 97, of Winnipeg, MB., passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Concordia Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

Florence Yack was born July 27, 1928 in Torquay, SK. area to Leonidas Bouchard and Marianne Gingras.

She is the seventh child of 18. Florence mentioned that her first memories were of a happy family trying to make the best amidst windstorms, recession and depression, which as a child she thought was normal. After seven years of drought, in 1937, the family moved to Laurier. She was nine years old and attended Champlain school until 15 years of age. Trying to learn to read and write in French was a challenge.

In 1943, with 10 younger siblings, Florence stayed home to help her parents for three years. She was hired at St. Rose Hospital in 1946 and at Misericordia Hospital in 1947. The following year, at the age of 20, she decided to enter the Community of “Les Soeurs de la Misericorde” in Montreal for basic formation for two years. She spent five years in studies to be a dietitian graduating from St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester Minnesota.

In 1971, after 23 years she returned to secular life continuing to work as a dietician at the Sharon Home, the Misericordia & St. Boniface hospitals, gradually adjusting to the new surroundings. She enjoyed serving patients and seniors.

After six years, she met and married Earl Yack, a widower with three grown children. They made their home in Winnipeg until 1986 and then retired in Dauphin. In retirement, Florence enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting and especially paper tole.

After 23 years of marriage she lost her best friend. Three years later Florence moved back to Winnipeg. She volunteered for Seniors Clubs, the hospital gift shop, Diabetes, Cards for safety, Food for thought, church and Friendship Center.

The year 2016 brought on assisted living with time to enjoy cards: bridge, whist and of course cribbage. In 2023, she moved to 151 Despins to be with three of her siblings. Notes were found that 2025, at the age of 97, she was waiting for her next assignment.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Residence Despins Chapel, Winnipeg, MB, at 1:00 p.m. Ash interment will occur at a later date in spring.
