Obituary

Helen Braun (nee Hiebert), passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB.

Left to mourn are her three children, three children-in-law, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren: son John (wife Jane) and granddaughter Michelle; daughter Katherine (husband Dave) Harvey, grandson Josh (wife Elise) Harvey and great-grandchildren Georgia and Theo, and granddaughter Shaun (husband Aaron) Coutts and great-grandchildren Davey and Reuben; son Ken (wife Cheryl) and granddaughter Jessica (husband Sam) Ehlers and great-grandchildren Miles and Loch, and grandson Kris (wife Jocelyn) and great-grandchildren Everett and Sophia.

She is also survived by her brother, John, and three sisters, Mary (husband Bill) Giesbrecht, Tina Hiebert and Anna Peters, and many precious in-laws.

Helen was born August 7, 1936, at Horndean, Manitoba, and attended Melba School. In 1949 the family moved to the Lowe Farm District and there attended Steinfeld School. She was blessed with parents who taught her the German language, the Bible, and moral values especially honesty and humility. She was baptized in June 1955 in the Konsweide Sommerfelder Church.

She married the love of her life Frank Braun on July 25, 1957, at Plum Coulee in the Bergthaler Church by Bishop Toews of the Sargent Avenue Church in Winnipeg.

Helen worked most of her adult life as a nursing assistant at the General Hospital and St Boniface Hospital and for Home Care. In the later years she spent much time looking after her husband until his passing at Fred Douglas Home in June 2008. Helen moved to Bethel Place in September that year, and to Resthaven on August 31, 2022.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing beginning at 1:00 p.m.
