Obituary

John Berg, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Morris, Manitoba, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on June 5, 1962, in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico, John’s infectious laughter and loving spirit blessed this world for 63 years.

John was a man of great character, known for his friendly demeanor, quick wit, lack of filter, and profound love for his family. He met his beloved wife, Maria, in his hometown, where they began their lifelong journey together. Their union was blessed with three wonderful sons: Johnny, Jim (married to Melissa), and Daniel. John’s joy multiplied with the arrival of his five granddaughters: Kira, Autumn, Kayla, Stephanie, and Brynlee, who were the light of his life.

Dedicated and hardworking, John spent 27 years as a building mover, a career that showcased his strength and tenacity. His work ethic was unparalleled, and he was highly respected within the industry. Colleagues and clients alike appreciated his integrity and the friendly, funny, and loving nature that he brought to every job site. They all knew that 4:00 sharp was coffee time and everyone was invited.

Outside of work, John’s passions were simple yet profound. He loved music, finding solace and joy in its melodies. His love for cutting grass was more than a chore; it was a time of reflection and peace, with the hum of the mower as his companion. But above all, John’s granddaughters were his greatest interest. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was teaching them valuable life lessons or simply basking in their youthful energy.

John’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring strength of family bonds. He nurtured a home where everyone was welcome, and his sense of humor brought light to even the darkest of days. He will be profoundly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us.

John is survived by his loving wife, Maria; his sons, Johnny, Jim (and wife Melissa), and Daniel; his adored granddaughters, Kira, Autumn, Kayla, Stephanie, and Brynlee; and a community of friends who were touched by his kindness.

Though we mourn the loss of such a remarkable man, we take solace in the memories we shared and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. John’s life was a testament to the power of love and the joy of laughter. His memory will be treasured forever, and his lessons of love and kindness will be passed down through generations. Rest in peace, dear John, until we meet again.
