Obituary

Henry (Kasper) Funk, also known as “Hank”, age 67, of Grunthal, Manitoba, passed away peacefully in the early hours on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Vita Personal Care Home in Vita, MB, with his sister by his side. His passing came following a short battle with cancer.

Henry is survived by one daughter, Dorothy, her husband, Joe Paizen, one grandson, Dallas (Celine), and one granddaughter, MacKenzie (Aiden). He also leaves behind to mourn, his sisters, Anne Habke, Susie (Melvin) Smith, his brother George (Lydia) Funk, and his sisters, Betty Bueckert, Martha (David) Klassen, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving parents, Henry W. and Elizabeth Funk, brother-in-law, Tom Bueckert, great nephew, Kyle Friesen.

Henry was born on March 30, 1958, in Steinbach, MB. He was the fifth of six children. Henry loved growing up on the family farm in Barkfield, MB, and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He got his love for gardening from his mom, and his love for fixing things from his dad – Henry was always tinkering on something. He also had a big soft spot for animals. Henry did a variety of jobs over the years and was a skilled handyman and carpenter. As he got older, his time was spent reading newspapers, watching game shows and watching or listening to the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers games. He was a sports fanatic and stats guy. Henry was our own personal weatherman – from thunderstorms, snowstorms, northern lights to harvest moons, he always knew what was coming or going. Henry always shared what he had and loved to help others. We hope that Henry will be remembered for his big and generous heart.

Weeks before his passing, Henry’s heart had softened a lot, and we knew he had accepted Jesus as his Saviour! The family rejoices in knowing he is at peace in his heavenly home. Thank you to all the people that have faithfully prayed for, and ministered to, our brother.

“The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the broken hearted; he rescues those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous face many troubles, but the Lord rescues them from each and every one.” ~ Psalm 34:17-19

A private family service will be held for Henry at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

We would like to give a special thank you to Birchwood staff for their excellent and compassionate care.

Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Vita Personal Care Home for their exceptional care, compassion and companionship over the past year. Your kindness meant the world to us!
