Gilles Desorcy spent 100 years creating the kind of love that stays with a family forever. On Monday, May 25, 2026, he passed peacefully with his family by his side.
Gilles was born in Ste. Anne on February 26, 1926. He enlisted in the army at the age of 18 and served his country during WWII. Gilles was married to his wife of 75 years, Claire (née Gagnon) on February 18, 1950. He was a very hard-working man; the family will always remember the story of him walking from La Broquerie to Brandon to get a job harvesting for a farmer. He also hauled milk for Tetrault Transport, worked for Supercrete in Winnipeg, and worked for Manitoba Hydro until he retired. He had a knack for building or repairing things with whatever was on hand. He enjoyed playing the wooden spoons or the harmonica and playing cribbage while gathering with family and friends.
Gilles was a proud Husband, Dad, Pepère and Grand-Papa whose family meant everything to him. One of his biggest joys was having his whole family together and traveling with his family; he was always asking where they were going next. We’ll never forget him overlooking Okanagan Lake with tears in his eyes at the beauty of it and having his whole family together. Whether you were family through blood, marriage or friendship, to know Gilles and to be loved by Gilles was one of life’s greatest blessings. He was truly one of a kind, making everyone laugh with his smile, wit and one liners; sometimes all it took was a look from him from across the room. He was dedicated, loyal, sincere, selfless and generous. He often spent his evenings walking downstairs while praying for his family or in the gazebo outside. Gilles has missed Claire every single day since she passed in April 2025, we know they are together again arm in arm, hand in hand, giving each other goodnight kisses.
Gilles’ passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of many. He is survived by his loving daughters Diane & Florence (Ron St. Hilaire). He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Claude (Katie) St. Hilaire, Danielle (Erick Rocan) & Michelle (Jeremy Young), and great-grandchildren Amélia & Benjamin St. Hilaire, Jaden & Isabella Rocan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Jeannette Desorcy, Estelle Taillefer, Louis Gagnon, Yvette Gagnon & Roland Gagnon, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Gilles was predeceased by his wife Claire, his parents Émile & Maria Desorcy, his in-laws Paul-Émile & Rosina Gagnon, brothers, brothers-in-law, sisters and sisters-in-law: Jacques & Laurette Desorcy, Henri & Joey Desorcy, Paul & Susanne Desorcy, Guillaume Desorcy, Donat & Jeannette Desorcy, Jeanne & Armand Tougas, Yvette & Ken McGibney; Yvette & Wilfrid Turenne, Joseph & Lilliane, Oscar, Gérard, Lynda and Carmelle Gagnon, Gilberte & Lorne Friesen, Guy Taillefer.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 19th, 2026, at 10:30am, at the St-Joachim Roman Catholic Church, La Broquerie, MB.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the medical staff at Villa Youville and Ste. Anne Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Gilles. It was heartwarming to see how special he became to the medical staff that took care of him, even being referred to as “a celebrity”.
Repose en paix, on t’aime de tout notre coeur Gilles, Dad, Pepère, Grand-Papa. Dit allô à Memère pour nous.
