Obituary

Martha Agnes Penner, age 58, of Steinbach MB, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness, surrounded by family on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.

She is survived by her mother Helen (Jake) Friesen, four brothers, two sisters, her estranged husband Boyd Penner, her dog Shpitzie, sons Andy, CJ and TyBo Dean, daughters Shawna, Shellia and Catleen, and all of their beautiful families including 22 grandchildren and adored sons and daughters-in-law.

She was sadly predeceased by a son, Joel Boyd Penner in 2011.

Martha grew up on a hobby farm near Steinbach with her six siblings and spent many Sundays playing with cousins. Her 400+ Peters family gathers bi-annually to this day. She attributed her sense of humor and love of music to them. She raised her seven kids near Blumenort, where she gave her hours and her heart to the farm. She dreamed of farming with her sons again one day. Martha’s last year was spent finding new hope and joy in this life, going on adventures, singing karaoke with her cousins, cooking with her sister, visiting mom and being loved on by everybody, but she never was afraid to “go to sleep for a little bit”. Her love for her Heavenly Father was strong, heaven was always one of her favorite topics and she prayed for her family’s salvation unceasingly. Her wish of being baptized materialized as well! It was beautiful.

The kids are all welcoming visits from extended family and friends; there will be a celebration of life planned at a later date.

Special thanks to all the people who prayed and loved on her, local nurses who took care of her for years, family who was always quick to be by her side, and friends who never gave up hope.
