Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Garrioch was born on September 17, 1950, to his mother, Marcelle. He grew up alongside his two brothers, Brian and Steve, and his sister, Carole.

Tony spent his youth by the sea in Brighton, England, where he passed countless hours beachcombing, fishing off the West Pier, and boating. Throughout his life, he fondly recalled simple seaside days, treating himself to a “99” and eating fish and chips wrapped in newspaper. He cherished memories of picking blackberries, primroses and bluebells with his mother and swore no one could bake a sponge cake quite like his sister, Carole.

An adventurous spirit, Tony raced motorcycles in the UK and resourcefully built his own bicycles from scrap parts hauled home on the bus. This mechanical aptitude naturally led to a proud career as an auto body technician. A remarkably gifted craftsman, he could build almost anything, from custom furniture and musical instruments to intricate model fishing boats and cars.

In 1979, Tony relocated to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where he met his soulmate, Barbara Ann Belcourt. Married on August 11, 1984, they shared 41 wonderful years together. Tony was a devoted family man – a true “superman” to his children, Stephen (“Steve”) and Marie-Anne (“Josey”), and a playful grandfather to Bentley, Brogan, and Leighton, cherishing every moment spent with them and leaving them with countless memories. With a wonderful sense of humour, he filled family road trips with laughter and cherished the hours spent outdoors with the kids, building snow hills and gathering around bonfires.

After falling ill, Tony expressed he was tired and simply ready to rest. God answered his prayers, granting him peace in the early morning of June 14, 2026. Though deeply saddened, his family finds comfort in knowing his struggles have ended. His adventurous spirit, vibrant character, and boundless talents will be forever remembered by all who loved him.

Honouring Tony’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. His immediate family will celebrate his life privately.
