With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Viola Toews at St. Pierre Hospital on Wednesday evening, August 19, 2026, at the age of 84.
She is survived by her husband David Toews, her cherished daughter Caroline (Kerry), her beloved grandsons Brendan, Kai, Jack, and Cash, her brothers Erwin (Diane), Bernie (Lillian), Dennis (Brenda), and sisters-in-law Lydia and Margarite (Jim), and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Ben & Elsie, and her brothers Alvin and Willie.
Viola was raised near Niverville on the Falk Farm, where she attended the Aaron School and still maintains friendships from then! She went on to nursing school, which was her absolute passion, and so many people have fond memories of working with her.
She married David Toews on June 30, 1978 and adopted their one and only child, Caroline, years later.
She enjoyed traveling with her family and spending summers at their cottage on Star Lake.
Viola was an energetic, enthusiastic, kind, and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be so greatly missed!
In May of 2025 she was faced with stage four lung cancer, but never once complained and was so grateful for everything and always prayed for healing. She was so grateful for the hospital staff, her friends (the Fab Five!), and the countless family that spent hours with her at the hospital.
We are confident she is now in the presence of Jesus, whom she loved and served whole-heartedly.
We thank the staff at HSC and St. Pierre Hospital for their compassion and care throughout this difficult time.
The celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
