Obituary

Constance (Connie) Schroeder passed away October 11, 2026 at the Morris General Hospital.

She is survived by her husband Ken Schroeder, one daughter Jennifer (Colin) Spilak and three grandchildren: Sophie, Soloman, and Saraya.

Connie was predeceased by her parents Jack and Lily Rempel, step father John Taubensee, brother Allan Rempel and sister-in-law Dianne Rempel.

On October 1, 1940, Constance Marlene Rempel was born the first child of Jack and Lily Rempel of River Hills, Manitoba. Because her mother helped in the business, the children often visited with Opa & Oma at the homestead three miles away, as well as with Grandma & Grandpa Tyderkie in Winnipeg.

When our mother was left to raise us on her own, she carried on with faith and joy. Family and friends in the community and church surrounded them, helping in many ways.

As a child Connie was keenly aware of God. At the age of seven she confessed her sin and received Jesus Christ Saviour and Lord; at twelve she was baptized in the Whitemouth River, near the old Whitemouth Baptist Church.

To complete High School Connie lived with Opa & Oma Rempel in Morris for a year, graduating in 1957. She then attended Prairie Bible Institute and Manitoba Teachers College. Family funds were scarce, so she worked many summer jobs to get an education. Just before her nineteenth birthday she began a very gratifying career as a teacher, first in St. James, then in Morris and Dauphin.

Wherever Connie made her church home, she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School and Jr. Church. She often directed a Jr. Choir, helped with the youth group, and sat on the C.E. board. In its early years, Connie often helped at Nutimik Baptist Camp as cook’s helper, cabin counselor and teacher.

In 1968 Connie met Ken Schroeder at Swan River. They were married at Grant Park Baptist Church in Winnipeg on July 5, 1969, and made their first home in Dauphin where Ken was employed. For a year they lived in Swan River before enjoying 32 years in Yorkton. In 2007 they retired to Morris, Manitoba.

Public viewing will be held at Morris Funeral Home, Thursday and Friday, October 15 & 16 from 12:00 pm to 8:00pm.

A funeral service will be planned for a future date.
