Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to Heinrich Friesen, husband, father and grandfather.

Dad was born April 16 1957, and went to his eternal reward on Thursday, November 5th. 2026. What’s between these dates is what tells the story God wrote before he was on this earth. We want to just share glimpses of God’s faithfulness in Dad’s life.

After the migration from Canada to Mexico, his grandparents decided to settle in the village of Reinland, in the state of Mexico, where Heinrich was born. It was here he went to school and later helped out on the family farm and woodmill.

In 1977, he was baptized on the confession of his faith by Bishop Heinrich Dyck in Kronsthal Old Colony Church.

In August of the same year he married Justina Wall, with whom he shared 26 years of happy marriage.

Their union was blessed with seven children:

  • Neil and Anna with their six children: Chrissy, Natalie, Alyssa, Benny, Billy and Timothy.
  • Henry and Christina with three children; Alethea, Stefaina and Danelia.
  • Pedro, late wife Elli. 5 children: Romy, Yeshua, Simeon, Gerith and Luther.
  • Andres and Lisa, one daughter Katie
  • Aggie,
  • Jake,
  • Cristina with David Martens.

Heinrich’s wife Justina passed after a prolonged battle with cancer. After a year of intense grieving, Heinrich married Eva Guenther. She would become a wonderful supporting wife to Dad by lovingly caring for him until around the clock care was necessary. Furthermore, Mom would lovingly embrace the role of including seven more children into her fold.

Dad also embraced the role of lovingly including Eva’s children as his own.

  • Lena and Corny Wall and children: Joey and Judy, Ruben, Serena and Jenny
  • Willy Guenther
  • Sahra and Benny Wiebe and children: Jeffrey and Marissa.

Dad was the village school teacher for many years, and had a smelting business on top of his teaching role.

Looking for a better life, our parents decided to seek a better life in Canada. Eventually a permanent move to Leamington was made in 2002. Here Dad worked as a welder till 2021. At this time, his health declined and he had to retire. In 2023, the decision was made to move to Winkler. Dad enjoyed going for walks until he no longer could. In June of this year, we had to make the difficult decision to admit him to the hospital to expedite him going into the nursing home. He spent his last few months in the Carman Memorial Hospital until his passing.

We as the family would like to express our gratitude to the Carman Memorial Hospital for their tender care of Dad. Also to the Reinland Mennonite church for all their love and support during this difficult time.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at the Reinland Mennonite Church, Winkler, MB. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service.
