Obituary

It is bittersweet to announce that Jacob Klassen passed away on October 30, 2026 in the hospital at Vita, Manitoba. Bittersweet in that we will never share a laugh, receive his willing help with anything that needed his skilled hands, or share a cup of coffee early in the morning. Sweet in that he is finally free of a body that had been a struggle for much of his life.

Jacob was born in Gouldtown, Saskatchewan on April 4, 1941, and spent most of his young life in Steinbach. When he married Marlene, they made their life together first in Winnipeg, and then raised their family of three in Morden. His life was devoted to his family, his community and his craft. His life’s work is in the homes and cars of many. He considered the work that he did, the beauty that came out of his upholstery shop, his gift to the world that he could help.

Jacob was predeceased by Marlene in 2014, and he is survived by their three children, Anthony, Vincent and Julie, their families, and many other family and friends who loved and cherished him.

The funeral service for Jacob will be held Thursday, November 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. There will be a reception at Birchwood following the burial.
