As a result of recent fatalities on Manitoba roadways, Steinbach RCMP conducted check stops on the evenings of Thursday, November 3 and Friday November 4, 2016. Members of the detachment focused on speeding, intersection related offences, distracted drivers and impaired drivers.

Police say that on November 3, 25 offences were issued under the Highway Traffic Act. Offences were issued for speeding, failure to stop at stop signs, failure to wear seat belts and drivers who were using their cell phones. Police also issued a 72-hour licence suspension to a 24-year-old male from Steinbach who provided a breath sample that was between 50 and 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of blood. Later that evening, a 52-year-old male was charged with impaired driving and failure to provide a breath sample.

On November 4, officers issued 29 offences under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding, failure to wear a seat belt, using a cellular device while driving and failure to stop and a stop sign. Officer’s also issued a 24-hour suspension to a 19-year-old novice driver from the RM of Rhineland who was restricted to zero blood alcohol contact. The novice driver had consumed alcohol before driving. One 72-hour suspension was issued to a 21-year-old resident of La Broquerie as a result of providing a breath sample between 50 and 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood. In another instance, a 28-year-old male from the RM of Ste. Anne was charged with refusing a breath sample.

RCMP also report that at approximately 12:45am the same night, a 19-year-old male from Steinbach was checked and found to be impaired. He provided breath samples of 110 and 100mgs of alcohol  per 100mls of blood.
