As the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living, I was pleased to announce that nominations are being accepted for the Manitoba Council on Aging Recognition Awards.

As thousands of students head back to school this week, our government has been laying the groundwork to enhance student engagement and achievement.

With September upon us, it is back to school time in the Hanover School Division and around the province.

When I was appointed in spring as the Minister of Health, Seniors and Active Living I was also asked by our Premier to continue to serve as Government House Leader for the spring session and to work on mentoring a new incoming House Leader.

Last week I was pleased to announce that Manitoba will now join the ranks of Ontario, Nova Scotia and British Columbia in automatically administering hearing tests to newborn infants.

This past Thursday I announced, on behalf of the Government of Manitoba, that regulation changes have been passed to change and strengthen regional health authority boards.

The Province of Manitoba will now be accepting applications through a single-window application intake for cost-shared infrastructure funding for four different grant programs.

I encourage you to follow and celebrate the accomplishments of our province’s athletes during the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and I am excited to see that 14 Manitobans rank among the athletes participating in the Olympics and Paralympics.

This weekend kicked off the 47th Annual Folklorama, the largest and longest-running multicultural festival of its kind in the world.

Last Monday our government issued a call for public feedback on the current ban of cosmetic pesticides, which prohibits certain chemicals to control weeds on lawns, sidewalks, school yards and hospital property.
