Lac du Bonnet RCMP are reporting that as the result of a recent search warrant execution, officers were able to seize an RCMP-issued firearm that was stolen back in 2019.

Police recently became aware of a male suspect who was possibly in possession of a firearm while at a hotel in Lac du Bonnet. On March 20, 2023, at approximately 11:15 am, a search warrant was executed resulting in the arrest of the 35-year-old male. Officers noted that a semi-automatic handgun was seized as the result of the search.

Further police investigation determined that the firearm seized was reported stolen from the residence of an RCMP officer residing in the City of Winnipeg back in 2019. The firearm was an RCMP-issued firearm that had been stolen from a safe in the officer’s residence and the break and enter is currently a Winnipeg Police Service investigation.

RCMP report that Cody Tronrud, of Lac du Bonnet, is facing numerous firearms related charges in connection to this incident. Officers noted that Tronrud also had an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated assault, uttering threats, and failing to attend court.
