Selkirk RCMP are reporting that a grenade was recently discovered at the Selkirk Waterfront by a fisherman.
On August 6, 2026, at 3:05pm, RCMP were notified that a possible grenade had been located at the Waterfront in Selkirk. Local officers attended the scene and learned that a male who was fishing had hooked the grenade and removed it from the water.
Manitoba RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit also contacted members of the Canadian Armed Forces to attend to the scene.
Members of the 17 Wing Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight analyzed the recovered item and determined it to be a training grenade from the 1950’s. No safety pin was attached, and it was deemed safe to be transported to a facility for disposal.
Manitoba RCMP reminds anyone who finds an object that appears to be an explosive device not to touch, move, or disturb it, but rather leave the area, go to a safe location, and contact police immediately.
Selkirk RCMP thanked community partners and members of the public for cooperating with the investigation.
