On September 13, at approximately 9:50am, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision involving a semi tractor trailer and a minivan. The incident took place approximately two miles south of Steinbach on Highway 12 in the RM of Hanover.

Police responded to the call with City of Steinbach Fire Department and Ambulance already on scene.

Police investigation determined that the semi, which was hauling an empty trailer, was traveling south on Highway 12 when a northbound minivan slowly veered into the path of the truck causing a head-on collision.

RCMP report that the female driver of the minivan was air-lifted by STARS to Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. She was 66 years of age and the soul occupant of the vehicle.

Police believe that the driver of the minivan was possibly distracted, though alcohol is not considered to be a factor in the collision.

The female driver of the minivan is reported as having non-life threatening injuries. The driver and co-driver of the semi did not sustain any injuries from the collision.

RCMP Traffic Analysts attended the scene and police continue to investigate.
