On August 28, 2016, at approximately 10:20pm, Thompson RCMP, as well as EMS personnel, were dispatched to a residence on Dominion Bay in Thompson, Manitoba, following a report of a 3-month-old infant in medical distress.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel immediately provided medical care to the female infant. She was transported to hospital but was pronounced deceased the same evening. A one-year-old male child was also located at the scene and was transported to hospital as a precaution.

RCMP Officers from the Thompson Serious Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services attended to assist with the investigation. RCMP have now charged the mother of the infant, 22-year-old Julienne Towers from Thompson, with criminal negligence causing death, failing to provide the necessaries of life and two counts of an adult abandoning a child.

Julienne Towers has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Thompson, Manitoba.
