A 60-year-old male pilot is dead after his plane went down near a landing strip located in Baldur, Manitoba.

On December 15, at 7:45pm, Killarney RCMP received a report of an overdue plane. Police say that the pilot, a 60-year-old man, was flying alone in his personal Piper aircraft from Gillam to a private landing ‎strip in the RM of Argyle. He was scheduled to arrive at the landing strip at approximately 6:30pm, on December 15. Just past his scheduled arrival time, contact was lost with the pilot and the aircraft.

A search for the missing aircraft, lead by a Canadian Forces Hercules, commenced on the evening of December 15. On the following morning, the search resumed with assistance from the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA) of Manitoba. At approximately 3:30pm, the plane was located in a wooded area, in close proximity to the landing strip near Baldur, Manitoba. The pilot was pronounced deceased on scene.

Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada were notified and will be leading the investigation.
