The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking for witnesses after a 21-year old male was injured during his arrest by police in Brandon.

On July 19, Brandon Police Service notified the IIU of an incident that occurred earlier that day at 1:23 a.m. when officers were called to the 400 block of 9th street in Brandon regarding a disturbance. Officers attended along with the K9 unit.

The K9 unit was tracking when it encountered a male who fled from police. The dog physically engaged the individual and, as a result, the man received an injury to his hand that required medical treatment.

Although this is not a serious injury as defined by regulations, the IIU civilian director has determined it is in the public interest for the agency to investigate.

Witnesses or other individuals who have information or video footage that may assist this investigation are asked to contact the IIU toll free at 1-844-667-6060.
