At 88 years of age, Jack Ervin Russell was recently sworn in as an Honourary Member of the RCMP – fulfilling his life-long dream of being a Mountie.

In 1951, at the age of 20, Jack Ervin Russell was accepted into the RCMP. Even though becoming a Mountie was his only dream in life, he had to decline the offer as his family needed him in Elva, Manitoba.

Throughout his entire life, Jack wondered what could have been if he had joined and become an RCMP officer. Now, at the age of 88, with a terminal illness and only days to live, his family, along with the RCMP, wanted to put those thoughts at ease.

On Friday, the Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Manitoba met with Jack to swear him in as an Honourary Member of the Force.

RCMP members said they were proud to welcome Honourary Member Jack Ervin Russell into the ranks, saluting Jack for his incredible dedication to his family.
