The Manitoba government has announced that it will establish a regional trade representative in India as part of its ongoing efforts to diversify trading partners and expand market access around the globe.

“This is an important milestone for our province to develop closer ties with one of the fastest-growing economies in the world,” said Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses. “Having a permanent representative in the region will help build a relationship that will benefit Manitobans for decades to come.”

Manitoba’s Economic Development Strategy, announced in September 2025, focuses on building a resilient and competitive economy to expand trade and export opportunities for Manitoba businesses. The strategy aims to reduce economic vulnerabilities and over-reliance on the U.S. market, the minister noted, adding that increasing the Manitoba government’s presence worldwide is a key part of that strategy.

India’s rapidly expanding middle class and growing consumer market are driving increased demand for high-quality goods and services, making it a key opportunity for Manitoba exporters and an increasingly important priority market, the minister added.

“Manitoba businesses are increasingly looking beyond traditional markets to strengthen supply chains, expand exports and seize new economic opportunities,” said Chuck Davidson, president and CEO, Manitoba Chambers of Commerce, and co-chair of the Premier’s Business and Jobs Council trade diversification subcommittee. “Establishing a dedicated Manitoba office in India is a welcome, strategic step that will help Manitoba businesses compete more effectively in global markets.”

The trade representative will provide market intelligence, build business connections, attract investment, support trade missions and events, and report on results to ensure the delivery of real, tangible outcomes for Manitobans, the minister noted.
