Portage la Prairie RCMP are reporting that a local officer was recently attacked at the local hospital while guarding a prisoner in the emergency room area.
On August 3, 2026, at 1:45am, an RCMP officer, who was on-shift and guarding a prisoner at the Portage District General Hospital, was attacked by an unknown adult male suspect.
Police say that the officer requested backup and fought to control the male with the assistance of hospital staff in the reception area. The male then attempted to take the firearm from the officer.
Additional officers from the Portage la Prairie RCMP detachment immediately responded to help place the male under arrest. Officers noted that while the suspect was being handcuffed, he again attempted to take a firearm from the holster of a different officer. The suspect was eventually arrested and transported to the local detachment without further incident.
RCMP report that 25-year-old Dylan Twovoice, from Portage la Prairie, is currently facing charges of assault on a police officer, disarming a police officer, mischief under $5,000, and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.
Members noted that one officer sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident, and was treated at the hospital.
