Obituary

Doreen Desjardins (nee Curtis), of Steinbach MB, formerly a long-term resident of Winnipeg MB, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 5th 2017 at her residence, at the age of 75.

Doreen was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Gilles Desjardins, in 1998, and will be deeply missed by her daughters Kelly (James Gobeil) Desjardins, Karen Baker (Jonathan), Kathleen (Tom) Bachelder, her grandchildren Alexa Gobeil, Victoria Baker, Elizabeth Baker, Mary Baker, Kiana Bachelder, and Taylor Bachelder, and her sister Agnes “Bunny” Dumont, and brother Ernie Curtis, and niece Lynn Bates.

Doreen was a wonderful mother to us. She always put her girls first and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. She taught us how to be strong independent women, and to depend first on ourselves. She loved to cook and made the best lemon meringue pies and roast beef dinners. Summers were a special time and we spent many wonderful years at the family cottage. Every weekend in the summer, our mother and father cleared the land and built the cottage from ground up, from sleeping in an old canvas green tent to a beautiful lake front little cottage.

Doreen worked at Great West Life and the Manitoba Department of Highways before having children. Then as a stay at home mum until all her girls were in school. She then went back to work at the Independent Living Resource Centre as her last job before retirement.

We will always carry your memory in our hearts mum, with your joyful laugh, caring personality and love for your family.
