Obituary

It is with heavy heart and great sadness to announce that my dear husband, life partner and best friend, Gene Pytlinski passed peacefully from this world to his eternal home on the morning of December 16, 2017, while we were by his side surrounding him with love.

Gene will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Bernice (Schilke) Pytlinski; mother, Aniela Biernacki; sister, Christine (Helen) Powell; one niece and three nephews and their families; mother-in-law, Elsie Schilke; sister-in-law, Audry and Tom Choropita.

Gene was predeceased by his father, Joseph Pytlinski and step-father, Eugene Biernacki.

Gene was born in Belgium and came to Canada with his parents in May of 1951 to settle in Toronto, Ontario and later moved to Brantford, Ontario. While Gene was on a vacation trip to Winnipeg in the summer of 1975, I met my future husband. After a long-distance courtship, we married on June 12, 1976 and made our first home in Brantford, Ontario. Gene’s job opportunities, led us to our next home in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario where after years of being employed by others, Gene began his own Accounting and Tax Practice. He then purchased another Practice in Cambridge, Ontario to merge with his existing Practice. Cambridge then became our next home.

Education was extremely important to Gene leading him to achieve his Certified Management Accountant (Australia) recognized Globally around the world. He received his Accredited Professional Accountant with the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada and a Chartered Manager with the Canadian Institute of Management. Gene had his successful Accounting and Tax Practice for twenty years before making the decision to sell in July 2012.

Gene was a no-nonsense type guy who always had a plan! One of his plans was to eventually move to Winnipeg so we could be closer to my family. In January of 2013, that plan came to light and we moved to Winnipeg and also moved his Mother to Winnipeg so that we could all be together.

Through the course of our marriage, we had many wonderful adventures, travelling to places in Canada, the U.S. and flying to various luxurious destinations. Gene’s favorite destination was Hawaii, where we spent 3 weeks touring the islands. Gene’s love for sports had him playing football, baseball (winning an inter-provincial baseball championship) and hockey in his younger years. His love of golf had him playing on various golf courses in Ontario and PGA courses in the U.S. Gene also was an avid fan of various professional sports with NFL Football being his favorite. Currently, he was a member of Breezy Bend Golf Club in Headingley, Manitoba where he enjoyed many golf games, tournaments and the friendships he made there.

Gene lived a life filled with honor and integrity. He embraced challenges and took them as an opportunity to achieve his goals.

We want to sincerely thank Pastor Terry Gudmundson and Rev. Melissa Frankland for their prayers and compassion, as well as General Hospital ICU Team for their special care and compassion during this difficult time.

Cremation will take place and a private service will be held. Request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice if so desired.

He knew you were in pain,
He knew you might never
Get well upon this earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered “Peace be thine”.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you never went alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
