Our Lord and Saviour welcomed his faithful servant, Guillaume Desorcy home, Friday, February 2, 2018 at Ste. Anne Hospital, Ste. Anne, MB.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 61 years, Jeannette (Laramee), Lynne (Rob-ert), Gisele (Tom), Claude (Anita), Marcel (Andree), Ronald (Monique); 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; his brother Gilles (Claire); sister Yvette McGibney; sister-in-law Josephine Desorcy along with many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Emile and Maria Desorcy, Jacques (Laurette), Paul (Suzanne), Henri, Jeanne (Armand Tougas), Donat (Jeannette), Ken McGibney; sister in law Jeanine Brindle; brother in law Ron Kruger.
Born June 28, 1930, he lived the majority of his life in La Broquerie. Raised in humble surroundings, he spent a lot of his time out and about with his siblings, enjoying the outdoors. He had fond stories of walking many miles to go skating in town and to the one-room school house. How he enjoyed the cutter in the summers going to church and the horse drawn caboose in the winters. According to Pa, “Those were the times”. It was these cherished memories, his faith and the love of his family that helped him through his illness in the last year.
He met and married the love of his life Jeannette in 1956 raising their five children on a small hobby farm in La Broquerie. The early years were challenging but through their hard work, perseverance, faith and sense of humour, they pulled their family through. Papa had worked as a welder, health care aide and lastly, head custodian in the La Broquerie School before retiring due to a back injury in 1983. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic, faith in God, and a love for family that supports and stands by each other. He led by example loving and caring for his family. He took great pride in all his children and grandchildren. Papa had the gift of song and music and along with Mama passed it on to their children. If you were fortunate to hear him sing in his bass voice, it was always a treat. Focusing the remainder of his years on the hobby farm and his family, he tended to the various animals including horses, chickens, roosters and geese. He loved all animals and being sur-rounded by them. A yard was not a yard without chickens running about. Arriving at the gatherings, how often we could find him waiting for us swinging in his favourite swing enjoying a beautiful sunny day or in his rocking chair on cold days. We would take our turns sitting with him and having our chats. He always had a kind and supportive word when needed and would let us know he was praying for us. How his rocking chair now sits silent without his strong and gentle presence. Papa had a deep and abiding faith in his Saviour. Daily, he would take walks on the path surrounding his property praying for his family and praising his God for all the blessings in his life.
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for You.” John 14:2. How comforting this was for Papa, knowing he was going home while facing his challenges in the end. Our comfort is knowing we will be reunited one day and until then, we will keep you in our hearts. You have left a piece of you with each and everyone of us who love you.
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
The family wish to extend their grateful appreciation to Dr. Demoissac and the staff at the Ste. Anne Hospital for their care and attention to Guillaume. We also wish to thank Sister Rioux & Sister Vermette for their company and prayers. It meant a great deal to Guillaume and Jeannette.
A private celebration of life was held on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. An ash interment will take place at a later date.
