Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer, Jean Paul Bissonnette passed away at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB., on November 25, 2024 at the age of 82.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 52 years Antoinette (Boily), his children Guy (Denise), Michel, Roger (Darcy), Ginette (René), Suzelle (Lucien), Richard and Brigitte (Rick). Left to cherish his memory are his eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sisters Rolande SGM, Noella OMI, Marie, Madeleine (Ray), Marguerite (Jean-Yves), Jacqueline (Maurice), Cecile (Wolfgang), Suzanne (Mike); brothers Gérard (Solange), George (Linda), Yvon (Marguerite), Robert (Lilianne) and Aurèle (Émilie); his in-laws Solange (Gérard), Benoît, Gilbert, Marthe, Fernand (Dianne), Lorraine, Claire (Adrien), Rolande (Aurèle), Fernand Gauthier, Tannis Boily, Jules Hébert, Bernard Lemoine and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Ovila and Rose-Alba (Fillion), his sisters Louise, Lorraine and Armande, his in-laws Camille Boily and Marie-Louise (Decelles), Fern Letain, Aimé and Simone Fiola, Adrien Hudon, Alice Gauthier, Jeanne Faucher-Boily and Daniel Boily.

Jean Paul was born in St-Joseph, Manitoba on March 20, 1942. Fifth born of a large Catholic family, he was unwavering in his faith. He was an honest, patient, generous, and hard-working man. After living in Winnipeg for a few years, Jean Paul and Antoinette moved their young family to La Broquerie in 1975 when they adopted the four Fiola children. He provided for his family working in various jobs including construction, transportation and employee of the hog industry. He took much pride in the 15 years he served as a local volunteer fire fighter. JP enjoyed all sports. He kept fond memories of the years spent playing hockey for the St Joseph Saints with his buddies. He spent countless hours at the rink as a minor hockey coach and spectator. He was a dedicated fan of the Blue Bombers and Jets until the end. JP was an avid outdoorsman, he included his family in his passion for hunting, fishing, boating, camping, cutting and harvesting firewood.

The family would like to thank father Serge Buissé, the home care staff, the cancer care team, doctors Richard Liu, James T. Paul, Darren Reimer, and the Bethesda ER staff for their guidance and compassion in providing exceptional care to Jean Paul in the last three years of his journey.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joachim Catholic Parish, La Broquerie, MB., with viewing at the church prior to the service.
