A few months prior to her 100th birthday, Doreen died peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Winnipeg, MB. She was born Dec. 3, 1925, to Harry and Eva (nee Ross) Baldwin at her aunt’s farmhouse near Starbuck, Manitoba. Her childhood on the family farm at Starbuck shaped her life and always remained in her heart.
After high school, Doreen attended to Business School in Winnipeg. Doreen started working at Air Canada in 1948 and retired approximately 25 years later. On June 14, 1952, she married Gordon, a CNR railroader. While Doreen and Gord enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, Mom’s passion was always for her flower garden. She transformed the front lawn of her home into a magnificent, award winning flower garden, filled with peonies and purple iris so grand it attracted artists to paint it.
Grandma’s most precious memories were about spending time with all of her grandchildren. Lisa especially treasured the times she could garden or bake with her beloved Grandma.
For 13 years, Doreen had a home at ‘The Parkway’, thriving from the friendships she found, knitting to help a cause, and joining countless activities. As her memory began to fade, Doreen moved to the comfort of ‘BrightWater Living’ at 95 years, and then finally to the good care of ‘Golden Door Geriatric Centre’.
Doreen is survived by son Keith(Patti) Thompson of Winnipeg, daughter Brenda(Ken) Leach of Regina; grandchildren Lisa, Greg, Derek, David, Richard, Bob, Stephanie, Alexander, and Gillian; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Glenn Baldwin of Surrey, B.C.
She is predeceased by her husband Gordon(2013), son Lyle(2011), and sisters Bernice Willerton(2016) and Marge Hicks(2023).
A private graveside service will take place at Starbuck Cemetery at a later date.
