In the early morning hours of August 30, 2025, my father Sidney Koop, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather’s prayers were answered. He was peacefully welcomed into the loving arms of his heavenly father after a long struggle with ALS. His race is run, his pain is gone, and he is finally at peace. Praise God!
Sid was defined through his faith. As a controller at Landmark Feeds, bowler, Sunday school teacher, or father, he demonstrated it. Through his kindness, humility, love, joy, gentleness, and self control the Spirit was demonstrated. And nobody benefitted from this more than his family into whom he poured so much of his love and time. In the last months of his life, as his mobility left him and his pain grew, his faith just seemed to strengthen as his prayer list rivaled even that of his mother, the most prolific prayer warrior I have ever known. His greatest desire was that everyone, and especially his family, would be saved and have a close personal relationship with God. He prayed for this ceaselessly. However, he did not do this alone. His wife and best friend, Dora, stood by him, supported him, and in the final years was his full-time caregiver. Her love, commitment, and shared faith never wavered. On August 29 as they were putting him to bed, she told him she loved him, gave him a kiss, said the same prayer with him she had for the last few months, and went home to rest… and God took him home.
Sidney is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Dora; son, Jeff and his wife Tamara; daughter, Kendra and her husband Donavan; grand children, Alexander, Makayla and her husband Adley, Stephen and his wife Dominique, Ryker, Katherine, Talia, and Zeya; and great grand children, Takoa and Lily. Brothers Ron and his wife Violet, Wendel and his wife Lenette. Sisters Helen and her husband Frank, Anne, and Judy. Sister-in-law Emily and Pat. He is predeceased by his Father William, Mother Mary, Brothers Bob and his wife Hilda, Ernest, Tom, and brother-in-law Ron.
The Celebration of Life for Sidney will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
