It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Monty Kehler, September 8, 2025, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba, at the age of 64. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Darlene, mother Dorothy, siblings Denise, Glenda (Larry), Wendy (Wenceslao), John (Lisa), Ainslie (Marc), Brent (Erika) and sister-in-law Susan (Kevin) as well as multiple nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces, extended family and many dear friends. He also leaves behind a daughter, Candyce. Monty was predeceased by his nephew Jesse in 2012, his brother-in-law John in 2023 and his mother-in-law Judy in 2024.
Monty was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on July 24, 1961 and lived in Niverville during his preteen years. He then moved to Winnipeg with his family, followed by moving to Ile des Chenes and St. Adolphe in his adult years. He also moved to BC for a short time.
He met the love of his life, Darlene Chandler in December 2010 and was so happy when she agreed to marry him one year later, on December 10, 2011. They travelled to Las Vegas with some family and friends for the big event. They settled in Kleefeld in 2013.
Their family has increased to include two cats and two dogs that were all Monty’s babies.
During his life Monty worked a variety of jobs until he started work as an HVAC Testing and Balancing Technician at Air Movement Services Ltd. on November 1, 1996 where he remained working until April 2025. Monty loved his job and valued the lasting relationships he built with both co-workers and customers.
He joined a hockey team in Niverville and kept playing hockey into his early teens after moving to Winnipeg. Monty loved music and taught himself to play the banjo and 13 string guitar. Darlene has said that Monty was actually a really good singer and would sing in her ear while they danced together. Monty loved golfing and he and Darlene would often book some golf time on a Sunday to give them time together while doing something they both enjoyed. Another favourite pastime was riding his Harley Davidson.
Monty loved to cook and to entertain friends and family with the delicious results. He mastered cooking brisket or ribs in his smoker. He was always happy to help with BBQing on the day that Air Movement had their annual golf day, even when he was no longer able to golf.
Monty was always willing to help anybody who needed help and didn’t expect anything in return. He had a really great sense of humor, for those people who appreciated sarcasm as a sense of humor.
In keeping with Monty’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
