On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Ida Derksen, our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother passed into the loving arms of Jesus.
She is survived by her daughter Eunice and husband Rob Wiebe and family and son Martin and wife Susann and family. She is also survived by her Aunt Helen Kehler, sister Agnes, brother Hank (Shirley) and sisters-in-law Martha and Helen Neufeld, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Ida Neufeld was born to Jacob & Anna Neufeld of Niverville area on May 30, 1927. She was the oldest of eight children. She grew up on the family farm north of New Bothwell. In 1949, she moved to Winnipeg and began work at St. Amant where she worked for the next 32 years, eventually becoming the manager of the linen and uniform departments. In 1951, she married Edward Thiessen, whom she met at St. Amant. They were married for 38 years until Eddie’s passing in 1989.
Just prior to her marriage, Ida accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour thus beginning a life long walk of faith. Shortly after their marriage the couple started attending Calvary Temple church in Winnipeg where Ida volunteered in the kitchen, as a Sunday School teacher and at Red Rock Bible Camp.
Several years after her first husband Eddie Thiessen’s passing, Ida was introduced to Abraham Derksen of Brandon. They subsequently dated and were married in June 1993. Ida moved to Brandon to farm with Abe where the couple remained until Abe’s health dictated that he could no longer farm. They moved to Niverville in 2000 to be closer to family. When Abe’s declining health necessitated greater medical care, Ida moved to Silver Courts in Niverville in 2012. She lived there until her declining health resulted in a stay at St. Pierre Hospital where she passed from this mortal life and went to meet her Lord.
Ida’s irrepressible good nature and engaging smile made it easy for her to make friends. Whether it was at work in St. Amant, at Calvary Temple, in Brandon or upon her return to Niverville, her circle of friends continued to grow throughout her life. Ida also loved to cook and delighted in being a hostess. She loved her Lord Jesus and trusted Him to guide and direct her throughout her life. One of her favourite Bible verses was Psalm 37: 4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”. She was loved immensely and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing prior to the service.
The interment will take place at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville, MB.
