Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Daniel Friesen, who passed away at his son and daughter-in-laws home in Kelowna, B.C. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

Daniel was born on September 29, 1950, in Santa Clara, Mexico, to Henry & Katherina Friesen. He was the eighth of eleven children. He spent the first few years of his life growing up on a farm before moving to Spanish Lookout, Belize.

Daniel met the love of his life, Shirley Kornelsen and they married August 4, 1974, in Spanish Lookout, Belize. Daniel and Shirley built a beautiful life together raising eight children: Myrna, Allan, Ronald, Henry, Roy, Luella, Sylvia, and Nelson.

Daniel and Shirley lived in Belize for the first 20 years of their marriage, after which they moved to Canada. They eventually settled permanently in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Over the years Daniel had been a truck driver, teacher, pastor, farmer, and caretaker of apartments. Throughout his life, Daniel enjoyed Bible studies with his wife and close friends, as well, spending quality time with his children and grand children.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, their eight children, and their spouses, twenty-two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Daniel was predeceased by his parents and several siblings.

He will be greatly missed.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., followed by a light lunch (faspa).
