Dorothy passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 11, 2025, at the age of 81 in Steinbach, Manitoba.
Her only sister Edie and loving parents, Mable and Eric Weir, were very excited to welcome their beautiful baby girl in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland on September 8, 1944.
Sadly, her daddy was taken to heaven when she was 12 years old. Dorothy was raised by her loving mother and shared many wonderful childhood memories with her sister.
Dorothy “Dottie” married the love of her life, Melvin John Dyke “Jack”, on February 7, 1962. When she fell in love with Jack, she also fell in love with his family. Brothers Bob, Ted, Ran, Fred, and the twins Edie and Lucy.
Dottie and Jack built a beautiful family together. They welcomed their daughter Donna in July of 1962 and their son, Eric, the following May of 1963. In August 1965, Johnny completed their family. The Dyke family then moved to Thompson, Manitoba where both Dorothy and Jack worked hard to give their family a good life.
Dorothy was a kind and generous woman who loved her family with so much pride. Dottie will be forever remembered with love by her husband Jack of 63 years and their three children Donna (Brian) Wilson, Eric Dyke (Bill Campbell), and John Dyke (Cecile Kelly). She was a proud nanny to Christina (Tyler), April (Dan), Tarile (Kurt), Michelle (Zach), Travis, Amanda, and Melissa (Alex). Great grandmother to Andrew (Ashley), Jacob, Noah, Max, Zoe, Mae, Amy, Ava, Brynn, Benjamin, Amaya, Harper, Elliot, and Holden. Great, great grandmother to little Arlo, and loved by her nieces, nephews, and in laws.
Over the years, Dorothy and Jack also welcomed a son-in-law, Kevin Beaver, and daughters-in-laws Jackie Pearce and Cris Vierra, and grandsons-in-law Tim, and Ryan. Though these marriages ended, Dottie and Jack’s love for them was still strong. Dorothy was incredibly special to many friends and family, and friends that became family, who will all cherish her memory forever.
She will be remembered as the most beautiful wife, mother, and nanny. Absolutely nothing was more important to her than family.
Life will never be the same without her, but her family gets peace and joy knowing that she is reunited with her mom and dad, whom she missed so much.
We love you Dottie, Mom, Nanny. You are forever in our hearts.
The Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
