He was predeceased by his father Peter Unrau, mother-in-law Lorraine Bergen and nephew Jaymar Bergen.
Albert’s deep love for family was evident in everything he did. Debbie, his beloved wife of 45 years, shared many pastimes together, including raising Mavis and Kyle, of whom they were immensely proud. Whenever he could blend his work or hobbies with time spent alongside loved ones, he found true joy. He took great pride in tending his garden, nurturing plants from seed to harvest, and celebrating the garden’s bounty. One of his favourite activities was a friendly game of lawn darts while enjoying a backyard fire. Some of his most cherished memories were made, fishing or camping with family. His grandkids affectionately called him “Grandpa Fish”.
From a young age, Albert developed a passion for working with horses – training them, going on trail rides, and simply enjoying the majestic animals they are. His dedication and work ethic were clear throughout his working life, with many years spent at Friendly Family Farms and in the stucco trade. Over the past two decades, Albert devoted himself as the caretaker of the Grunthal Arena. Beloved by everyone in the community, he spent countless days and weekends ensuring the arena was always in top condition for local families and all who loved playing hockey there. Albert took pride that Kyle now cares for community recreation facilities in Grunthal.
As shown by his love of family and his community, Albert lived his life fully and treasured the simple pleasures, and he will be deeply missed.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The interment will take place at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.
