Obituary

Annie Dyck, age 96, of Winnipeg, MB., passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

Mom had written her own obituary in August, 2015. Finding it amongst her voluminous paperwork, we honour her vision and version of what she wrote, about herself.

Annie (nee Suderman) was born 4 miles north of Plum Coulee. Her dad was a farmer. When her parents moved to Kane to farm, their Annie went to school in Kane.

As a teenager, her sister and her raised about 500 turkeys, so they could have some spending money. Annie attended Bible School in Winkler. Annie was in the first class that graduated as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), in Manitoba. She was regarded as a good nurse. Living and working in Winkler, she sang in the MB Church Choir. Annie loved to work with her late husband. She and her husband Ed lived in Gretna, MB many years before retiring.

She played piano in Church, in Morden and Gretna and played for various trio and quartets; doing so for many years. She also played piano for the large children’s choir in Morden; at Ladies Aids in Morden and Gretna. Annie was involved in building a Senior Centre in Gretna; playing the piano for their seniors. Annie loved hymns of the Christian faith and was incredibly generous using her musical gifts.

Annie was predeceased by her first husband Henry Hiebert (1958), A widow with three children she later married Ed Dyck, a widower with seven children. They lived in Morden, Gretna, Altona, and later in Niverville. Annie was also predeceased by her second husband, Ed Dyck.

In 2021 she went to live with her eldest daughter, Irene in Winnipeg. They lived together until her death.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, a brother, step-daughter, and step-son; as well as her youngest daughter, Ivy Friesen of Niverville.

Food was a big thing in Annie’s life and she was a very good cook; for example, she won a cake contest, coming first out of 25, winning with a 2-layer white cake. Annie [by self-report] said she had a wonderful family and was thankful for the love bestowed upon her. “God has been very good to me.”

From her daughters, Irene and Iris: Mom’s heart desire was to love the Lord and have “Jesus in my heart.” During a brief early moment in the hospital before her death, she called out, in Irene’s presence, “Help me, Help me, Help me.” Irene responded, asking how she could help. Mom replied, “I need Jesus, I need Jesus, in my heart.” To which Irene responded, “You have Jesus in your heart mom, you do not need to worry.” Irene touched her heart, and she was calm.

Mother you did have Jesus and it showed as you spent years praying, especially in the mornings for your children and all life’s concerns. Not only were you an example of caring for your aging husband and his needs, you would extend love and food beyond your home. You were patient and kind and let life do its “thing,” as you rode many storms.

Thank you Lord, for an amazing woman, who in the end, stoic in the Lord and patient through death. We cling to the word, and take comfort in Psalm 23 and Psalm 121.

Annie is survived by the families of Ed’s children (spouses, children and grandchildren) and her two daughters, Irene and Iris, and their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild. “You are missed”
