Obituary

Michel “Mitch” Roy, age 87, of St. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Repos Jolys, St. Pierre-Jolys, MB.

Michel was born December 15th, 1938, in St. Boniface. At a very young age he started working alongside his father on the farm in St. Pierre Jolys, which he continued to do throughout the years at the farm in Otterburne until it was sold and he and his father moved into the town.

While he didn’t travel much, Mitch spoke very fondly of the trip he took with his father out East to visit family.

Although he had no children of his own, he found family in the people who loved him most. He was a steady presence in the lives of Carmel and Lucien, becoming a member of the Poirier family. Even though he was a cousin to Carmel, he was so much more. Michel quickly became like a “bonus Pépère” to their children Justin, Miguel and Julie. He was a supporter, a storyteller and someone who could always be counted on. He was family in every way that mattered, and his absence will be deeply felt by the Poirier family.

Michel was a proud member of Knights of Columbus for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, welding, gardening, reading, playing cards, puzzles, curling and he loved going to Miami Beach Campground with the Poirier family. Those weekends were spent tagging along with Lucien to offer help with any little project he could get his hands on. No matter what the project, Mitch was always there to help. In the evenings he would spend time around the fire and when it was time to call it a night, he was always ready to throw back an “I love you more!” to whoever said I love you first.

He always had a calm presence and a friendly smile to offer anyone who was around him. Those who knew him were lucky to have known him.

Thank you to the staff at Chalet Maloin and Repos Jolys for the amazing care you provided him throughout the years. We could not have asked for a better team, who went above and beyond for him.

Michel is predeceased by his father Napoleon, his mother Beatrice and his brother Marcel.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Charlotte and nephew Donald (Kelly), and by his extended family Lucien and Carmel, along with their children Justin (Ashley), Miguel (Crystal) and Julie (Denis), as well as their children Annika, Calem, Brielle, Vincent, Sylvain, Natalie, Sara and Kallie.

Rest in peace Michel, and we love you more.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Viateur Parish Church, Otterburne, MB. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
