Obituary

With great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Evelyn Martel (nee Lehman). She was born March 30th, 1950 here in Manitoba and passed away Sunday, April 5th at Ste. Anne Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her children Dave (Michelle), Steve, Joanne, Joe (Tiffany), and Kerry (Jeff); grandchildren Marissa (Ryan T.), Brittany (Billy), Jessica (Dontai), Brianna (Ryan B.), Brooke-Lynne (Ryan, Broadrick (Delaney), Cloe (Nick), Ashley (Keishon), Lexi (Austin), Derrick (Abby), Avery, Tommy, Gracelyn (Ethan), Olivia, Wilder and Owen; and great-grandchildren Everett, Quinn, Wyatt, Morrigan, Kingsley, Taidon, Riley, Elliott, Charlotte, Madelynn, Ryder, Zayden, Lillianna, Graham and Jackson, and her siblings Daniel and Carol.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Georgina Lehman and husband Maurice Martel.

Evelyn grew up in Marchand, Manitoba on a dairy farm, marrying in 1968 and eventually moving to Giroux with Maurice where raised their family and stayed for the rest of their lives. They were married nearly 49 years at the time of Maurice’s passing.

Evelyn worked for Canada Post for 12 years before retiring in 2017. Mom’s primary focus in life was her family, which she devoted most of her time to, attending every school and sporting event possible, planning annual family camps, games, and holiday gatherings. Mom loved to work in her yard, gardening and enjoying the outdoors.

The memorial service will be held on Friday April 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
