Obituary

Dora Krentz, daughter of Gregory and Safta (Badiuk) Dzaman (“Jaman”), was born on October 28, 1919 and raised in the Arbakka, Manitoba area, along with 8 siblings. At age 16, Dora left home to work in the Morris area where she met Bill (William) Krentz who was employed on a neighboring farm. Dora and Bill married in 1939 and dairy-farmed in the Friedensfeld area from 1939 until 1975, when they moved to Steinbach. Following their move to Steinbach, Dora served as caretaker at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years, and she also worked briefly at a restaurant.

Dora passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018, on her 99th birthday.

Dora was predeceased by her parents and siblings, as well as her husband Bill (in 1979), and her eldest son, Harold, in 1997. Her resilience was especially evident following these last two major losses in her life. Along with her resilience, her family and friends will remember her as being incredibly independent, undemanding, industrious, intelligent, generous, cheerful, fun-loving, hospitable, a fabulous cook, and a good listener.

Dora especially enjoyed reading and gardening. Throughout her life, she was active in her church, notably in the ELW (women’s) group and in the quilting group.

While Dora lived alone for many years, she said she was never lonely, and she was determined to live in her own home, which she did, until the end, thanks especially to many wonderful, dedicated, home-care workers.

Surviving and cherishing her life and constant love are her son Glen and wife Ruth; her daughter-in-law Deloris and husband Ed Podjan; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Bruce and Marnie Krentz (Paige and Murphy); Shannon and Benoit Bisson (Luc, Eric, and Madeleine); Michael and Jenny Krentz (Brady and Kaitlyn); and Jeremy and Mai Krentz.

A celebration of Dora’s life and service of thanksgiving will take place at on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St, Steinbach MB. Lunch and a time of fellowship will take place immediately after the service, followed by a private family interment at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Friedensfeld.
