With family at the bedside, Tina Regehr passed away at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB on Friday, November 09, 2018.
Tina was born in Muensterberg, Russia on January 17,1921. In 1925 the family immigrated to Canada, first settling in the Winkler area. In the spring of 1926 they continued their journey on to Steinbach.
She received Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in childhood years. On August 04,1935 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith by her father, Rev. A.A. Regehr, and joined the fellowship of the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church. Although she was unable to attend church regularly for the last few years, she remained a faithful contributing member of her home church until the time of her passing.
Her younger years were spent at home helping on the family farm. Milking cows and then delivering the milk to various homes was a daily task. In the summer she helped tend to large gardens of potatoes, beets and raspberries. Great care was taken to tend these gardens. At harvest time, the produce was handpicked, weighed and carefully placed in containers and sacks, ready to be sold.
Mr. C.F. Barkman offered Tina a job at the post office. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed; a job she held for 32 years.
Her father was a resident at the Rest Haven Nursing Home, so she and her sister Mary came to sing for him on a weekly basis. After he passed away in 1968, the Home asked them to continue on with their ministry in music, which they did for another 25 years.
Tina and her sister Mary loved to travel! They visited destinations in North and South America, Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and coast to coast in Canada. When air travel became too difficult, they took day trips by charter bus and of course Travelogue in Winnipeg.
The family home was sold in 1992 and Tina, with her sister Mary, moved into Fernwood Place. This was home until 2016 when she moved into supportive housing at Cedarwood Apartments. In the last 2 years however she experienced very serious health problems which eventually resulted in her being hospitalized April 15,2018. Tina was transferred to Bethesda Place on July 23, 2018.
She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings. Left to mourn her passing are 21 nieces and nephews with their families, cousins and friends.
A big bouquet of thanks to Dr. Mark Duerksen for his compassionate care over the years, and more recently to the staff at Cedarwood and at Bethesda Place.
The funeral service will take place Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m., at the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 Second Street, Steinbach, MB with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be at the church prior to the service.
Donations in memory of Tina maybe made to The Gideon’s, PO Box 3619, Guelph, ON N1H 7A2.
