Obituary

It is with broken hearts that the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB, after a battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Lynda, his daughter Krystina (Stéphane), son Greg (Chelsea), and grandson Sawyer – all of whom he loved unconditionally. Peter is also survived by his brother Bob (Gay), sisters Betty (Gary), Mary (Gerald), and Agnes, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also had a special place in his heart for his grand-dog and four grand-cats. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Aron and Annie, brothers John and Dick, and several family members and friends that were precious to him.

Born in Steinbach and raised in Landmark, Peter attended Shakespeare School (a one-room school) and then Landmark Collegiate, before obtaining his B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba. He was a teacher for 40 years in the Winnipeg School Division and, although he specialized in math and science, he taught a variety of subjects from grades 3 to 12 before finishing his career teaching in the Adult Education program.

A true educator at heart, Peter loved to learn through reading books, travelling the world with his family and friends, volunteering his time, and taking art classes after retirement. He taught us about the value of hard work, the beauty in giving to others, and the importance of fairness – as well as everything we would ever need to know about construction and farming.

Many heartfelt thanks goes out to the doctors, nurses, and staff on GD6 at Health Sciences Centre, and the palliative care team at St. Boniface Hospital. Their care and compassion for Peter, and for our family, was truly beyond expectations.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota St, Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Peter may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or MCC 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
