It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Andrew Friesen. Andrew was born on July 12, 1988, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Les & Lori Friesen. He passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, after bravely battling a health issue for the past year.
He is survived by the love of his life, Helena Friesen, their five children, Noah, Ezra, Hope, Ethan and Leah as well as his parents Les & Lori, his siblings Eric, Jennifer & Abe, their son Carter, Steven and his wife Raina.
He was the oldest of four children. He attended grade school in Blumenort, MB., graduating from Steinbach Christian High school in 2006. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey and football.
He later accomplished two years of school of ministers alongside his sister Jenn at Southland Church. Andrew was very hands on and involved in church life, and everything he did was with precision and dedication. He met Helena at a young adult Bible camp, waited patiently for two years before asking her out and pursued her and her boys with love, dedication and honor. They were soon married and had three children together. They had a beautiful life, with a happy home full of little hands and a vibrant and healthy marriage. They rented for the first year of their marriage, and bought their first home together in Mitchell. This last year Andrew had the privilege of baptizing his son, Noah and serving in Ezra’s bible camp as his leader. He was dedicated to making sure Noah and Ezra were treated like his biological children, they are forever changed by him. The love and joy he had for his children was evident in the way he spent most of his evenings at home, building play structures and investing into their hearts and being available for them, as well as continuing to go on dates with Helena even when life got busy.
Andrew spent nineteen years in the family business roofing with his dad and brother Eric.
In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, shooting guns, kayaking, using his chainsaw and building things. One of his biggest hobbies was woodworking. Andrew built many benches, sheds picnic tables, playhouse and his latest project, a chicken coop with only recycled wood. He also loved writing poetry, spending many evenings writing out his feelings.
Andrew and Helena lead a life group together. His leadership and wisdom impacted many. He was a very passionate, honorable, hardworking and God fearing man.
He will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., followed by a faspa.
