Obituary

Elmer Loewen, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with his beloved wife Susan by his side.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Susan; his children, Kim (Mark), Jonathan (Andrea), and Sheryl; his grandchildren, Jess (Corey), Logan (Katrina), Sarah, Ethan, Ava, and Levi; and his great-grandchildren, Presley, Isabella, and Daelen.

Elmer was born on November 15, 1939, in Gretna, Manitoba. Then from the age of 10, he grew up in Bagot, Manitoba. Later moving to Toronto, he there graduated as a heavy-duty mechanic. On July 11, 1964, he married Susan, and together they began their life in Glenboro, Portage la Prairie, and Winnipeg. In 1972, Elmer followed his calling to farm when they moved to Cooks Creek, later settling in Oakbank and Anola.

Elmer leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, generosity, and strength. He had a deep love for farming and enjoyed fishing trips and road adventures. He treasured simple daily rhythms – morning coffee, time spent in God’s word, and connecting with others.

His faith in Jesus was the cornerstone of his life. Elmer faithfully served in his church community, working with youth, teaching Sunday School, and leading Bible studies. In his later years, he made a habit of calling friends and acquaintances simply to check in and share a kind word, reflecting his genuine care for others.

Over the past year, Elmer often prayed, “Jesus, come and take me home.” That prayer has now been answered. His faith remained unwavering as he sowed God’s word into the lives of many. Today, he is reaping the perfect harvest.

As the saying goes, “farmers never grow old, they only go to seed.”

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, with viewing prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.
