Eleanor (Elly) Warkentin Rempel, age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma and friend.
She is predeceased by her husband John Rempel and baby Lynnette. She is survived by her children Millie (Todd) Frega, Reg (Kim) Rempel, and Pam (Kent) Martens. She is also survived by her grandchildren AJ, Amy, Charity, Mitchell, Kyle, Jaden, Kelsey and their families.
Eleanor was born to John F. and Aganetha Warkentin on September 25, 1929, in Giroux, Manitoba. While she was growing up her family moved a lot due to her dad’s different jobs. They started in Giroux, then moved to McTavish, Rosenort, the town of Morris, and eventually back to Rosenort.
Eleanor was saved at 11 years old while attending a Canadian Sunday School Mission (CSSM) camp that summer. She rededicated her life to Christ at 17 and was baptized as a member of the EMC.
Eleanor and John met as teenagers and as love deepened, never dated others. They were married on November 5, 1950. They were together for 68 and a half years. After marriage, Eleanor and John moved to a farm Northwest of Rosenort where all their children were born.
Their first two children, Millie and Reg, were born deaf. Eleanor took a course on how to teach deaf youngsters, which kept her busy preparing lessons from a very young age until they went to a Winnipeg school. John and Elly kept in close touch with the children’s education through college.
It was a sad time when a full-term baby girl unexpectedly passed away after just 36 hours.
In 1966, John and Elly welcomed Pam into the family. Eleanor had a part time job for 25 years alongside life on the farm. She managed the Thrift Store, was Sewing Circle president, did egg grading, and book work. She loved gardening, painting, and sewing. She was a writer and a speaker. She took great delight in watching and keeping up with her grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed passing on her skills and knowledge to them. Eleanor loved to learn and was always curious and hardworking.
Elly saw the Lord’s faithfulness in her life. She considered it a great joy when she would hear about her children and grandchildren experiencing the same salvation and following the Lord.
