Obituary

Diedrich Friesen, age 85, of Grunthal, Manitoba, peacefully went to his heavenly home on Friday, April 3, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty (Elizabeth) of 61 years, their children and their spouses: Norine & Barry, Dwayne & Sheila, Jeff & Janet, and Mat. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his 19 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Tony, Lavern, daughter-in-law Carmelle, and three grandchildren.

Diedrich (Dick) was born on February 20, 1941, as the youngest of nine children, to Cornelius and Helena Friesen. From a young age, he had a love for all things farming, which was his livelihood on the original family farm, until he moved into the town of Grunthal. Dad’s faith in Jesus was important to him and was seen in his active presence in church, with music and Bible study, even until 2 weeks before his passing. His love for his family was evident by all the effort and cost that was made to lead his family and bring the family together. The time spent with his community, friends and relatives, brought much joy and fulfillment to him, especially in these later years.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church, 101 Southwood St, Grunthal, MB., with a viewing to begin at 3:00 p.m. Following the service, there will be a burial in the Grunthal Cemetery and a fellowship meal to follow.
