It is with heavy hearts, yet with hope in Christ, that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Esther Plett, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the age of 90.
Esther was born on July 30, 1935, in Steinbach, Manitoba, to Katharina and Martin Wiebe.
She was united in marriage to Edwin Plett on September 10, 1955, at Steinbach Free Church. Together they shared 52 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
Esther was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Katharina; her brothers, Henry and Jacob and sisters Rosie and Eleanor; her beloved husband, Edwin; her son, Ric; her grandson, Chris; and her granddaughter, Chelsea.
She leaves to mourn her children; Cindy; Brenda (Dave); Doug (Grace); and Sheila (Roger). She will be lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren; Conroy, Nic, Bobby, Mike, Nathan, Kelly, Shaina, Joel, Madelyn, Elisa, Riesha and 17 great-grandchildren.
Also left to mourn are her brothers, Ed and Peter and her sisters, Mary, Doreen and Sarah.
Esther’s life was a reflection of her deep and abiding faith. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully in her home and community. She found joy in caring for others – whether through baking buns for those she loved, tending her garden, or spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Esther shared many blessings throughout her life, including her involvement in church life, where fellowship and service were deeply impactful. She enjoyed the simple joys God placed in her path.
Esther had a special love for all of God’s creation, especially the animals she cared for over the years – even the occasional raccoon.
Wherever she went, Esther carried kindness and warmth. She worked at Winnipeg Municipal Hospital in the dining room from 1953 to 1955, and later as a waitress at Edgar’s from 1969 to 1999.
In 2008, Esther moved to Parkview, where she built many meaningful relationships. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her there.
Esther will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her love of family, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome.
Though we grieve her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Saviour, reunited with those who have gone before her.
A special thank you to the staff at Home Care, especially Michelle, Jacqueline D. and Bea, Jillian with Palliative Care, Dr. Jake Kucheran and the Nurses and Health Care Aides at Ste. Anne Hospital, for their compassionate care and support.
The come-and-go viewing will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment will be held at Heritage Cemetery after the service. Fellowship meal will follow at Birchwood Funeral Chapel.
