Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Edward Gaetz, who passed away on July 15, 2026, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 87, just two days shy of his 88th birthday.

Frank will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia; their children, Lyle (Debby and her family) and Jacquie (Pat); their cherished grandchildren, Nathan, Griffin, and Melanie (Eric); and their precious great-granddaughters, Millie and Margot.

He is survived by his brother, Eugene (Evelyn); and his sisters, Sally and Florence. He is also survived by brother-in-law Ron, sister-in-law Marlys, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Mary Gaetz; his parents-in-law, Archie and Laura Pearse; and siblings, Walter, Margaret, Victoria, Verna, Bernice, Leonard, and Rose.

Frank was born on July 17, 1938, in Vita, Manitoba. Frank spent his life farming in the Tolstoi area. A man of humble beginnings, Frank’s character was shaped by hard work, determination, faith, and a deep commitment to the people he loved. Although his formal education ended after Grade 8, he built a remarkable life through an unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, perseverance, and devotion to his family and his way of life. Farming was more than Frank’s livelihood – it was his passion and his calling. He understood the demands of farm life and met them with resilience, determination, and pride through both the rewards and the hardships. Frank also worked many jobs off the farm to build a better life for his family.

Frank was a selfless man who never hesitated to put others before himself. He was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever he could, no matter who you were, Frank was ready to help out a neighbour in need. His Christian faith was an important part of his life, guiding his actions, grounding his spirit, and shaping the kindness and humility for which he was known.

Family was at the centre of Frank’s life. He was a proud grandfather to Nathan, Griffin, and Melanie, and great-grandfather to Millie and Margot, who brought him so much joy. Time spent with his growing family was among his greatest blessings. They will remember his gentle nature, incredible strength, quiet sense of humour, and the steady reassurance he offered simply by being there.

Outside of the farm, Frank enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and many card games with family and friends. As well, watching his favourite sports teams and game shows. Above all, however, he loved cheering on his grandsons, Nathan and Griffin, throughout their hockey journeys – from their early playing days to university hockey. Their achievements brought him tremendous pride and happiness.

He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the Green Ridge United Church at 2:00 pm, with internment to follow at the Green Ridge Cemetery.
