Obituary

Helen Warkentin (Born Epp), of Grunthal, MB, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at the De Salaberry District Health Centre, St. Pierre, MB.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Werner Warkentin, their children: Brian (Elena), Gary (Sherry), Albert (Lua) and Karen (Glenn); along with seventeen grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her brother Henry (Geraldine), sisters: Margaret and Mary (Ernie Falk); sisters-in-law Sara and Anne and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents David and Margaret Epp, two brothers David and Werner and brother-in-law John Blatz.

Helen was baptized on confession of her faith in May, 1957 and married Werner, Her high school sweetheart, in Grunthal on June 14, 1959. Together, they took over the Warkentin family farm. Mom was very involved on the farm while raising their four children. The farm won numerous awards for dairy production and dad gives a lot of the credit for that to mom as she was especially food with the cattle.

In 1991, they moved to a new home that they built off the farm yard but still on the acreage, though never fully retired from working on the farm. Though mom struggled with the health issues for much of the last 41 years, she always did her best to enjoy life and not to let illness limit her.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elim Mennonite Church, 30 Main St, Grunthal, MB. A private interment will take place prior to the service.

Special thanks to the staff at the De Salaberry District Health Centre who cared for mom over the last four months of her life and showed great care and compassion. Also many thanks to the numerous doctors and health service workers that have assisted her over the years.
