Obituary

Peter A.T. Funk, 86 of Bergthal, Paraguay passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 in Paraguay.

Peter Funk, our father, was born on October 18, 1931 in Landmark, MB. This is also where our parents met.

In 1948, our grandparents decided to move to Paraguay. On June 22, 1948, they left Landmark by bus to Winnipeg MB, followed by train to Montreal QC. From Montreal, they boarded the Voledam Ship and sailed to Buenos Aires, Argentina. This was a long trip, 22 days on the water, but did not reach their destination yet. From Buenos Aires, they traveled by train to Paraguay where they started a new chapter in their life. Dad was only 17 years old.

On July 21, 1953 Dad married the love of his life, Helen Wiebe. They were happily married for 56 years.

Mom passed away December4, 2009 from cancer. Dad went on with his life, missing Mom very, very much.

Dad passed away at age 86, 11 months and 28 days. He also lost his battle to cancer.

He leaves behind 4 sons, 7 daughters, 4 daughters in law, 7 sons in law, 32 grand children and 37 great grand children. Two brothers in law and 4 sisters in law. He was predeceased by one sister and three brothers.

Dad was the most amazing person, and a great example to many! He was generous and open-hearted, hard working and a great leader. As a board member, he helped introduce new business to Bergthal such as the Lactolanda Milk factory, credit union, co-op and was also the manager at the hospital for 17 years. He was committed to his family in good and difficult times.

We love you dad and we will truly miss you. May you rest in peace.

A memorial service for Peter A.T. Funk will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2pm at Steinbach CMC, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach, MB.
